The pursuit of this goal will be vital for achieving fuel diversification, conserving natural resources and improving energy security across the world.
In understanding Goal 7, we can see many ways in which we are positive contributors. Here we’ve highlighted two prime examples which typify how our products are accelerating the march towards affordable, clean energy worldwide.
MIDEL fluids; embraced as the industry standard for reliable wind energy transformers
MIDEL ester fluids are used to insulate distribution and power transformers worldwide. Their robust fire-safety and environmental credentials make them a critical component of transformers in more specialised applications – for example wind energy.
Metrosil overvoltage protection; keeping the lights on for hydropower installations
Metrosil varistors, which were first commercialised in 1937, are used in generation as well as the transmission and distribution (T&D) sectors within the power industry.
With a proven track record, Metrosil is the preferred solution for demanding environments, notably in hydropower generation, which comprise the world’s largest renewable power generation plants. For example, at the Three Gorges Dam in China, Metrosil silicon carbide varistors are used to protect against power surges through the rapid dissipation of heat.
