Goal 15 – Life on Land
“Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss”
“Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss”
The pursuit of this goal will be vital for achieving fuel diversification, conserving natural resources and improving energy security across the world.
In understanding Goal 15, we can see many ways in which we are positive contributors. Here we’ve highlighted just one key example which typifies how our products are accelerating the march towards affordable, clean energy worldwide.
M&I Materials minimises the negative impact on life on land through the biodegradability of several of its products. This is important to our customers and partners because:
As a biodegradable ester-based range of EV battery coolants, MIVOLT is proven to be non-toxic for the environment, for example in the event of spilled fluid as a result of an EV collision.
The MIDEL brand comprises a diverse range of natural ester fluids derived from soya and rapeseed crops grown in various parts of the world; subject to customer requirements, allowing for transformers to use locally grown crops as a base material for insulation fluids.
Letsi Hydro Power Station, located in Northern Sweden, has transformers and supporting infrastructure located underground in order to conserve and protect the local natural environment, ancestral home of the indigenous Sami population. After operating more than 40 years, replacing the transformers became a necessity. As owner of the plant, the Swedish utility Vattenfall recognised the importance of reliability and environmental friendliness of the transformer components. Accordingly, the four generator step-up transformers (GSUs) for that project were specified to be ester-filled. MIDEL fluids were selected and have since ensured the protection of this natural environment.
