Advanced students see how MIDEL is made

15/02/2019

Masters and PhD-level students from Manchester University were hosted by M&I Materials this week at the company's manufacturing site in Trafford Park, Manchester.

The factory tour and presentations were arranged as part of M&I Materials' established links with the University; M&I Materials' latest work with the University involves its High Voltage laboratory.

The day included a review of the M&I Materials manufacturing areas, concentrating on MIDEL ester-based dielectric fluids, but also looking at Metrosil varistors, Wolfmet tungsten alloy and Apiezon sealants and lubricants. The visiting students were split into two groups to ensure everyone could engage fully with the presentations and get a good view of the manufacturing processes.

The day concluded with a lunch, team photo and the students were presented with MIDEL "swag" bags with more information, pens and flash drives. M&I Materials Technical Director, Amanda Quadling, commented "We were thrilled to host such a great group of students from Manchester University. We think it's really important for advanced students like this group to see the real-life application of the subjects they are studying. And who knows - perhaps the group includes future M&I Materials scientists!"
